FIFA Proposes Restrictions on Foreign Matches for Domestic Leagues

Noticias de fútbol

Domestic football leagues may soon be restricted to hosting only one match per season in foreign countries, according to new FIFA proposals. These changes aim to introduce clearer regulations and stricter controls for controversial “international matches” and significantly raise the bar for their approval.

A new protocol, developed by a FIFA working group formed nearly two years ago, would implement defined rules to govern this divisive issue and impose stringent limits. Under these proposals, host countries would be limited to a maximum of five ‘foreign’ matches per season.

Furthermore, the threshold for clearance of such matches would be raised, and FIFA would retain the right of veto over any proposed fixtures.
