Ilaix Moriba Skips International Duty for Recovery

La Liga

Ilaix Moriba will not join the Guinea national team as he needs to recover from patellar tendinopathy in his right knee. This was intended to be his much-anticipated return to international duty after a year, where he was set to participate in friendly matches against Togo and Benin. However, his comeback for the Guinean squad will now be delayed.

The Celta player, who was suspended and unable to play last Sunday, would also have been unavailable for the upcoming match against Alavés due to this discomfort. Having accumulated 2,699 minutes on the field this season, the midfielder needs to reach optimal physical condition for the demanding final two months of the championship.

International Commitments

With Moriba’s absence from his national team, five other Celta players will be representing their countries during this international window: Borja Iglesias, Fer Lopez, Williot Sweberg, Starfelt, and Radu.

Coach Claudio Giráldez aims to utilize this break to ensure his players are well-recovered. Due to the significant match load his squad has endured, he has scheduled only three training sessions this week and has granted his footballers a short vacation period.

This break is also crucial for the recovery of Matías Vecino, in addition to Ilaix Moriba. The Uruguayan is currently suffering from a fibrillar tear in the myofascial of his left soleus. While he will not be available for the league match against Valencia, the team hopes to count on him for the Europa League knockout tie against Freiburg.
