Real Betis Balompié is furthering its international expansion strategy with the inauguration of a new football academy in Eswatini. This Southern African nation, previously known as Swaziland, is situated between South Africa and Mozambique and has a population of just over one million. This initiative is designed to foster the development of young talent in the African country by implementing the club’s distinct training methodology.
The academy’s core objective is to offer young individuals a structured environment for football education. This encompasses a blend of technical and tactical training, character development through values education, and community integration activities.
Javier López Alonso, International Coordinator for Real Betis Academy, and Santiago González Márquez, a coach from the verdiblanco club, are currently visiting the new academy this week. Their purpose is to personally supervise the commencement of activities and ensure excellence in its initial phase. This visit aims to validate the implementation of Betis’s working methodology and guarantee that young talents begin their training upholding the quality standards and core values synonymous with the institution.
Sporting Development and Opportunities for Young Footballers
The academy will operate from the facilities of UFS International School, its local partner for this project. It is set to initially host 160 male and female players aged between 9 and 20, reflecting a program committed to inclusion and equal participation.
Training sessions will be held monthly, following a model that combines six training sessions and two matches. This structure allows young footballers to apply learned concepts in competitive settings. Additionally, the program includes specialized sports sessions organized with other local schools, thereby extending the academy’s influence on grassroots football development within the community.
Activities will primarily take place on Fridays and Saturdays, ensuring compatibility with academic schedules and encouraging participation from young individuals across various regions of the country.
A Project with Social Impact and Growth Ambitions
The academy also integrates a strong social focus, striving to make sports accessible to as many young people as possible. To achieve this, the project includes a support system for families and guardians, providing access to transportation, official academy kit, and training materials, facilitated through collaboration with the host school.
Furthermore, the program is open to both students of the host school and young individuals from other educational institutions, ensuring broad access to the facilities and the necessary supervision during training sessions.
The project also outlines a medium-term growth vision. Eswatini comprises four administrative regions, and the objective is to progressively expand the training network by establishing at least one training center in each region, thereby making Real Betis’s development model accessible to young people nationwide.
Real Betis Academy’s Strategic Plan in Africa
The launch of the Real Betis Academy in this small Southern African nation is part of the verdiblanco club’s international development strategy and plan for the African continent. Through this initiative, Real Betis aims to strengthen its global presence and contribute to the growth of youth football development across various regions worldwide.
Through the Real Betis Academy, the Seville-based institution continues to extend its methodology and educational model, which is founded on the comprehensive development of footballers. This approach blends sporting advancement with crucial values such as teamwork, discipline, and respect.
