English clubs’ request to UEFA to increase the size of Champions League squads to 28 players for the upcoming season has been denied. This rejection comes after considerable backlash, predominantly from Spanish clubs, with Atlético Madrid noted among those expressing reservations. The proposition for larger squad sizes was discussed during a meeting of UEFA’s club competitions committee last month. However, the proposal will not advance to the next executive committee meeting, which is scheduled to take place before the Europa League final in Istanbul on May 20th.
