Why Do So Many Want Arsenal to Fail in the Premier League Title Race?

Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League, has not won the title in over two decades. Surprisingly, very few impartial observers seem excited about the prospect of them finally becoming champions. Following Arsenal’s uninspiring 1-0 victory over Brighton on Wednesday, it wasn’t Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler’s critique of the Gunners’ playstyle that was most notable, but rather the widespread agreement his comments received.

Across England, it appears that very few people, beyond their dedicated fanbase or those specifically opposing Manchester City, actually desire to see Arsenal lift the trophy. Hürzeler himself remarked, “If I were to poll everyone present: ‘Did you truly enjoy this football match?’ I’m confident perhaps only one person would raise their hand, solely because they are a devoted Arsenal supporter; otherwise, there’s no likelihood.”
